Apache Junction sits at about 1,700 feet in Pinal County at the base of the Superstition Mountains, and it is one of the heaviest bark scorpion cities in the East Valley. The lots along Apache Trail, Superstition Boulevard, the foothills toward Lost Dutchman State Park and the Goldfield side are rocky native desert, and scorpions, pack rats, kissing bugs, black widows and Africanized bees come with the ground. Homes there are 1970s to 2000s block and stucco on larger lots with rock retaining walls, wood piles and boulder landscaping, all of which hold scorpions, and monthly service through the warm months with black light checks is the standard program.
The other half of Apache Junction is snowbird country. Dozens of RV resorts, mobile home parks and 55 and over communities along Apache Trail, Broadway and Southern fill from November through March and empty for summer, so a large share of the work is fall move in inspections on closed up units that come back with roaches, spiders, mice and occasionally bed bugs, and summer vacant programs arranged with park managers.
